Release of the New SOCAT 2025 Carbon Dataset

Release of the New SOCAT 2025 Carbon Dataset

The 2025 version of SOCAT carbon dataset is now available in the in situ global multiparameter NRT (MYNRT) product of the Copernicus marine service.

SOCAT is a global dataset of highly qualified measurements of the fugacity of carbon dioxide (fCO2) at the surface of the ocean. It is updated yearly. You can find more information on this dataset here.
Close to 46 million (M) new fCO2 measurements from 1957 to 2025 have been integrated. More than 41M in a new platform type, CO – autonomous ship underway CO2 sensor – and the rest divided into 4 other platform types: ferrybox FB (>2M), mooring MO (~1.8M), drifting buoy DB (~110,000) and sail drone SD (~72,000).

106 new platforms have been integrated to the Copernicus Marine Service specifically for SOCAT: 42 ships (CO), 38 moorings (MO), 18 drifting buoys (DB) and 8 sail drones (SD).
